Sorry I have not posted anything for a while nor shared many sketches either. I’ve been busy with a new collaborative animation project with my good friend Isaia.
We started this about two months ago, and really, it was only an idea at the time. I had some lyrics I wanted to turn into a song and needed his help to refine it. Then I played around with some chords and the melody formed itself with the words. So I recorded the song anyway, just for him to have some idea as to what I wanted it to sound like. I was very happy he liked it.
Snippets of the words…
I think it was before sunrise when the stars sparked in your eyes
Then you said, “I wanna touch your face.”
And I said, “Your arms aren’t long enough.”
But I feel you like the wind in my hair, the dreams in my hands
I feel you like a favourite book and best friends’ secrets
I feel you like childhood memories and coffee in the morning
I feel you. Each breath that you take fills me with the warmth you are…
When I sent the song to him, I already planned the animation for the video. It was something very simple and quick but well, Isaia, as he always is, thought we should go for full-blown awesomeness. Ha, my crazy friend. I love the way he suggested this at the time, in such a casual manner as though he could just do it with a click of his fingers. Well, I suppose artists with magic up their sleeves always have that cool attitude about crazy projects…
… while realistic types like me just went OMG, I agree, but OMG where do we start?
So here we are, up to month two and still drawing: characters, spaceships, trees, stars… so far, we have collectively sketched a total of 174 frames, excluding many we ended up discarding. And we have not even got to the part that I wanted him to do in the first place: refine my damn song! haha. But on the whole, it’s going extremely well and I am very happy with how things are forming. Slow and sure yet I must admit, it’s one of the most difficult projects we’ve ever done by far.
Anyway, let me share some sketches with you. We’re having so much fun with them, I dont know what I will do when we are done with this project.
Wish us luck! So much to do still, but going well so far. More to come soon. Have a great day now!
