So, finally the terrifying feedback: “This is where I’d throw the book across the room!” 😀
But of course, being my dear friends, they know how to give it to me in a most thoughtful way, with solid reasons and suggestions, and they’re even willing to trudge through it should I refuse to fix. Uhm. Not a chance. I will not torture my friends that way! Their feedback is valid and that just means I need to fix it, so I will and I’m determined to get it right. I hope not a single person will end up… throwing the book across the room!
Well, perhaps can’t avoid one or two but please not those who have loved it and gone that far into the book!
Anyway… so that means now I have to cut out a major plot node and bleed through the wound, as in rewrite pretty much half the book :(… I’m on it now, my heart in incisions, slicing out scene after scene, some I just adore (and it’s not often I love my own writing, ha!) But I think the feedback is right, and I’ve more opportunity to edit down to a reasonable wordcount, so even painful, I know it’s for the best!
Give me strength.. ouch.
On a happier note, the Cromera is now up on Short.Story Me. Please check it out! under Fantasy! (I owe this one most to Brynn who persistently encouraged me to submit this tale somewhere and who recommended the magazine to me. Thanks, sweet :))
